Ford Headquarters Move: Glass House Demolition in Dearborn

Ford Motor Company is making a major move in Dearborn. The automaker will shift its headquarters to the new Henry Ford II World Center and demolish its long-standing Glass House. This marks the end of an era for the Glass House, which served as the heart of Ford’s global operations for nearly 70 years.

The new headquarters will officially open in November 2025. While most of the facility will be ready this year, construction will continue through 2027 for the final sections. Ford describes the project as an “upgraded and reimagined Dearborn product development campus.” The new space will be double the size of the current HQ and built to handle twice as many employees.

Once complete, the campus will unite thousands of Ford’s engineering, design, and technology teams. The company expects 4,000 employees to work in the new building, while another 14,000 will be within a 15-minute walk. Ford also plans to open the campus for public tours, giving the community a chance to see its latest innovations.

The fate of the Glass House

The Glass House, an iconic Dearborn landmark, will be decommissioned once employees fully transition to the new headquarters. Demolition is expected to take about 18 months. Ford has not yet detailed exact plans for the site but confirmed it will be repurposed in partnership with the City of Dearborn

In a statement shared via Automotive News, Ford explained the move by emphasizing the need for modern, flexible, and technology-driven spaces. “The future of our industry demands a different kind of space—one that is more connected, more flexible, and built for the speed of a technology- and software-driven company,” the company said.

Looking ahead

The Ford headquarters move represents not only a physical relocation but also a shift toward embracing innovation and collaboration. As the Glass House makes way for new opportunities, Ford continues to balance its historic legacy with the demands of a software-driven automotive future.
