For decades, Kevin Bacon has been synonymous with Footloose, the 1984 classic that had an entire generation kicking off their Sunday shoes. But despite his legendary dance moves in the film, the Hollywood icon has one simple request—please, don’t make him relive it at weddings.
During a recent appearance at the SXSW festival, Bacon shared that whenever the song plays at weddings he attends, guests eagerly wait for him to jump into action. The expectation, he says, makes him feel like a “trained monkey,” as if he’s there to perform rather than enjoy the celebration.
While he appreciates the cultural impact of Footloose, Bacon admits that the pressure to bust out the famous moves can be overwhelming. “I love that people still connect with the movie, but sometimes, I just want to sit back and enjoy the party like everyone else,” he said with a chuckle.
So, if you’re planning a wedding and have Footloose on your playlist, just remember—if Kevin Bacon is in the crowd, it might be best to skip that track and let the man enjoy his night off!
